School Governors. l School governors have an important role in the school - as specialists, advisors, mentors, executives, strategists and friends of the school. Mrs Christine Parker (Staff Governor) Christine automatically became a governor at the school when she was appointed Headteacher in September 2006. She has taught in Surrey for the whole of her teaching career at The Hythe Middle School, Beaufort Middle School , Sayes Court Junior School where she was Senior Teacher and Staff Governor, then returning to Beaufort Primary School as Deputy Head Teacher, SENCO and Staff Governor. During her career, she has had responsibility for Music, ICT, Literacy as a key teacher, Assessment, Able Pupils and Staff Development. She has taught children from Reception to Year 6. As Music coordinator in all the schools she has taught at, Chris has enjoyed working with the children to produce shows and concerts, twice taking a choir to the Royal Albert Hall – unforgettable experiences!
Mrs Andree Drakeford (Parent Governor)
Rev Robert Bennett (Community Governor) Robert has lived in Woking all his life and in St John’s for the past 35 years. He became the Assistant Curate in the parish in July 2005. His working life was spent in accountancy firms where he specialised in dealing with charities. He is a trustee of a charity that, amongst other things, works on providing non-formal education for young people. He is also a member of sub-committees of two other charities. Robert has two grown up children, one who lives locally, but the other in Kent .
Mrs Helen Sims (Community Governor) Helen has been a governor at the school since November 2000 and was Chairman from June 2003 to September 2006. Helen is married and has lived in Woking for 18 years. She works as an accountant and Company Secretary and has been a member of St John’s Church for over 14 years.
Mr Neville Hinks (LEA Governor) Neville, who is 67 years old, lives with his wife Pat in Knaphill, across the green from the school. Neville is a retired accountant and a local councillor representing Knaphill on Woking Borough Council. Neville has previously held governorships at St Hugh of Lincoln R C Primary and Knaphill Middle School and was previously Vice-Chairman at the school. Mrs Viv Remedios Mr Tim Read (Parent Governor) Mr Oliver Wells Mrs Dawn McLaughlin (Parent Governor) Dawn moved to Knaphill in August 2006 and has been happily married to Stuart for 10 years, who was a school caretaker for that time. They have three children who all attend the school. She comes into school once a week to listen to the children read in Reception which she enjoyed doing for her older children in their previous school. She was a member of their PTA on her daughter’s Nursery School committee. She is a Parent Rep and a member of the PTFA. Donna is a housewife and loves reading, yoga and cross-stitch when she has the time!
Mrs Veronica Webb (LEA Governor) Veronica is a dispensing optician and works part-time for Boots Opticians in Sutton. She is a wife, mother and grandmother and all three of her children (and now three of her grandchildren) attended Woking schools for part of their education. She has been a member of PTA committees for the past few years and has also been a governor at the school for the last three years. Veronica has attended courses on marketing, finance and special needs for the better performance of her duties as governor and is currently Chairman.
Miss Sally Marshall (Associate) Sally is Deputy Head at the school. Her other roles within the school include being literacy leader and co-ordinator for continued professional development. She also teaches the reception class.
Mr Martyn Wilson (Associate) Martyn is the caretaker at the school and has lived in Woking for most of his life. All three of his children have been to (or are at) the school. Martyn has worked as an entertainer (comedian and magician) since leaving school and is a qualified trainer and assessor of adult education. He has served on the school's PTFA for a number of years and has been both Treasurer and Vice Chairman in the past.
