On Wednesday 4 th March 2009, Year 5 went on a trip to Wisley gardens. This is what we did:
Andrea (the plant hunter) was talking to us about being a plant hunter and how we take plants to and from countries. “We're not allowed to take soil to and from countries because of diseases.” She then told us how to make fun plant cuttings. “Plant cuttings are easy,” Andrea explained. “Just cut off the tip of the plant and carefully take off the leaves. Go to your tables now.”

We made our own amazing cuttings from a Tradescantia. “By the way children, the Tradescantia was named after a plant hunter called John Tradescant,” announced Andrea. I was almost done and Bonnie cried, “This is so fun!” When we had all finished we tidied up. Then we made our way to the enormous glasshouse.
When we went in the humid greenhouse we saw butterflies! One of them landed on Kieran's leg, one went on Samantha's hand and coat! We saw a plant called a drip tip and where you put water on the leaves it drips down to the roots to help them grow.

We split into two groups. One group was doing sketching and the other group was going round with Judy. We had a certain time to do everything because we had to come back to where we started, so we could swap over. Also we had to find a mystery plant. The teachers were carrying a sheet to give us hints.
Once we had done everything, we went back to the small education room to have our lunch. Everyone was saying they were so hungry. Everyone was allowed to sit and talk to their friends. After a while we had to go and wash our hands then come back to start our scavenger hunt.

We found lots of exciting things. “I like it here,” said Natasha.
“I want to come again,” said Charlotte.
In the scavenger hunt we found everything on our sheet.
We all had a brilliant time at Wisley gardens. Andrea and Judy were a great help and we learned lots of things.
