News & Updates

We hope everyone had a lovely summer and you're starting to get back into the swing of the school routine!   Over the summer we re-jigged the children's classes on Classlist and hopefully have slotted everyone into the correct class, but it might be worth having a quick look and double checking! Do let us know if we need to make any changes.

After the hugely successful fundraising push over the past couple of years, we're planning a slightly more tranquil year this year, focusing on the main events of the disco's, film night, parents social and of course the Christmas and summer fairs!

 For those who like to be prepared, here are some dates for your diaries (more information will come out nearer the time);

Tues 24th Sept – PTA Annual General Mingling 7.30pm

Fri 8th Nov –Disco 4.45-7.00pm

Fri 6th Dec – Xmas Fair 3.15-6.30pm

Fri 7th Feb – Film night 4.45-7.00 pm

Thurs 5th March – Parents Social 7.30-10.30 pm

Wed 1st April – Easter Trail 3.30-4.30pm

Fri 1st May – School Disco 4.45-7.00pm

Fri 12th June – Summer Fair 3.15-6.30 pm

Fri 3rd July – BBQ 4.30-6.30pm

The main focus of the PTA is to have fun! Of course raising money for the school is important too, but most importantly, let's make it a year for the kids to remember!  We can't do it without your help, so please please, if you're able to get involved - even if its helping at a cake sale or selling hotdogs for half an hour at an event, please do sign up and help out.  The St John's Community is what makes St John's such a wonderful school - let's use these events to make our community even stronger.

If you're keen to be a class rep this year, or interested but want to know more about what it involves, then please email us at pta@stjohnsprimary.org.uk. It would be great to get as many volunteers as we can signed up within the first few weeks back, and we look forward to seeing as many people as possible at the AGM on 24th September.

Best wishes

The PTA Committee

St John's Sports Kit Sponsored by Andrews

This year, there will be more opportunities for children in the Junior school to compete in cross-country events, football and netball tournaments, tag rugby and more! We are very excited to announce that Andrews Property Group will be sponsoring a St John's sports kit for Junior school children participating in these events.  We have ordered 40 kits (for both boys and girls), which will be held centrally and worn by children taking part in inter-school tournaments and competitions. We think having these kits will make a massive difference to the children's confidence and sense of team spirit when they attend sporting events. We'll post pictures on Classlist when the new kit arrives. Watch this space in the coming months!

Dates for your Diaries

Please visit the PTA section of the school website to see the events and socials we have planned for this year: http://www.stjohnsprimary.org.uk/website/pta_events_schedule/135515. These are always lots of fun for both parents and children, so please do add them to your diaries and come along.  If you have any other ideas for events, whether fundraising or purely social, please let us know, and we will try to book them in the diary.

Classlist

You should have received an email about 'St John's Classlist,' which is a new communications tool we are using to connect parents and carers across the school community. It's a secure, on-line communications platform, customised specifically for schools and PTAs.  Through Classlist you will be able to:

  • Message parents individually within your class or year group (e.g. to arrange play dates, ask for help with the school run)
  • Post messages to your class or year group (e.g. appeals for lost property, reminders about forest school kit etc.)
  • Receive announcements; these may be about events organised by the PTA, socials organised by your Class Rep etc.
  • Invite other parents to school-related events (e.g. your child's Birthday party)
When you register, you choose the details you want to share with other parents in your year group (it gives the option to share your telephone number and address, but this is not obligatory).  Your personal details are secure, and will never be shared with outside parties.  We tested out Classlist on a small scale last year, and feedback was very positive.  It only takes 2 minutes to register, so please keep an eye out for the email invite to join.
