Y5/6 This Term

 Term 1

A big welcome to you all, especially to any new starters and those children and parents starting in Y5 this year. Y5/6 is a very exciting year group with many opportunities, lots of which are happening this term!

Our topic for terms 1 and 2 is World War II so will have a history focus, as well as dipping in to some areas of Geography too. Alongside this topic, we will be reading Goodnight Mr Tom in our English lessons and producing some pieces of writing based on this book. Science and DT will also be linked to the topic, with a focus on light and controlling devices.

Our trip for the term is to the Steam Musuem in Swindon where the children will be experiencing life as a child during WWII. Please see the letter on the school website for more details. We are always grateful for any parental expertise in any of our areas of learning, as well as volunteers to hear readers; please get in touch with your child's class teacher should you feel able to offer any of your time.

In Maths this term, we will be looking at Place Value before moving onto calculation based work. Please encourage your child to go on Mathletics regularly at home and to practice their times tables as much as possible.

PE will be on a Wednesday and Friday this term. Please help your child to ensure that their PE kit is in school, follows the school policy and is labelled.

We hope your child has a fantastic first term - we are certainly looking forward to it!
