Welcome to St. John’s C of E School

St. John’s is a happy, caring and energetic Church of England Primary School at the heart of a vibrant community in Clifton and Redland.

In our last three Ofsted inspections, St. John’s has been consistently recognised for our outstanding practice. Most recently, we were judged Outstanding in four out of five key areas, and we are proud of our immensely skilled, dedicated team of staff, all of whom are committed to delivering an exceptional education. We are highly inclusive, welcoming children from all backgrounds, religions, world views, and those with learning differences. St. John’s is a place where children can flourish and achieve, from their first day in Reception right through to Year 6.

One to one lesson

Our vision ‘Together, Fly High Like an Eagle’ reflects our commitment to provide educational excellence within a highly aspirational environment.

Our core belief is that there are no limits to how much our children can achieve. Through the Christian foundation of our school, twinned with a focus on the St. John’s Christian values, our children thrive in an environment where they learn to be the best person they can be. And through our holistic, child-centred approach to teaching, St. John’s children grow into considerate, articulate and immensely capable young people, fully equipped for the next stage of their education and beyond.

PE activities

At St. John’s everyone can learn, have fun and feel safe and cared for, every day.

We like to think of our school as an incubator of ideas. We offer an enormous range of enrichment activities designed to encourage creativity, individual thought and curiosity – all vital ingredients when cultivating a life-long love of learning. As a result, our children leave us as independent, confident individuals, completely prepared for the exciting challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

Thank you to all the superb staff at St John’s, you’re doing a fantastic job! How lucky we are to have such great teachers and a lovely school community near us.

Y1 & Y5 Parents

As I watched Teddy cheer this morning at the thought of school, I reflected on how safe and happy he feels at St John’s. Thank you for creating such a welcoming space where all children can be themselves.

Y3 & Y1 Parents

Thank you to the wonderful staff of St John’s and all the hard work you put in to care for our children. We are new to this (early years parents) but we couldn’t be happier with our choice. Thank you!

St. John’s - school building

St. John’s children form part of a rich heritage and history of education dating back to 1852.

On nearby Blackboy Hill, the original school buildings still stand and are an excellent reminder as to just how long we have been teaching the young people of Bristol! We are now very fortunate to have two school sites at the top of Whiteladies Road that have both been specifically designed with our infant and junior children in mind. Each location is tailored to meet the needs of the age group based there, so all our children benefit from equipment and furniture that is size appropriate.

You are warmly invited to visit us and gain a true sense of how special St. John’s is.
