Y5&6 Lego Competition
On Thursday 26th February Mrs Barnard took a team of 10 Year 5 and 6s to GKN Filton for a FIRST Lego League regional competition. The team were amazing and had a fantastic day.
The competition involved building and coding a Lego Robot to solve a series of challenges and the team have been preparing for the event at an after-school club since November. They also had to give presentations to the judges about their Robot and innovation project.
In the first robot match the team faced some challenges and didn’t score very highly, so, like good engineers, they modified it (changing the size of the wheels) and then edited the code. Working hard, even through their lunchbreak, the changes paid off as the next rounds saw us scoring 160 and 145 points. To our delight, this earnt us a place in the semi finals where we beat our personal best score again, this time scoring 165. This resulted in 3rd place, narrowly missing out on a place in the finals.
What an exciting day! Massive well done to everyone involved.
We would like to thank our sponsors EDF-EPRE for their support; both financially and by sending us an engineer volunteer to help.
