Music Week

Music Week

St John’s Music Week 2022 was introduced by a visit from Toscana Strings, a string quintet and ballerina who performed an interactive arrangement of Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf.  We explored the characters and their musical themes (or leitmotifs) in preparation for our House event.

Music House Event

For this year’s Music House Event, the children were challenged to compose a leitmotif for a fictitious character.  LRR children worked in groups to choose appropriate instruments and create musical descriptions of a character from Jack and the Beanstalk, whilst WR chose between Miss Trunchbull (Matilda), The White Witch (The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe) and Fawkes (Harry Potter).

The end results were very impressive with wonderful teamwork, creativity and organisation evident in all compositions.  The judges had a very difficult time picking the winners!

Bristol Beacon Workshop

During Music Week, our wonderful choir took part in a workshop performance with 500 singers from around the city in the foyer at Bristol Beacon. They worked so hard to learn a large amount of repertoire and enjoyed being able to be out and about making music once again!

Music Concert

We were delighted to be able to hold our annual Music Concert during Music Week.  This was a great opportunity to hear and see the wonderful progress that our musicians have made this year.  The enthusiastic audience or parents and teachers were treated to famous theme tunes on the guitar, piano duets, saxophone solos, drum compositions (performed by the composers) and our choir reprising a selection of their Young Voices repertoire, performed in May at the Birmingham Arena.

What a wonderful evening!
